Located in Wake County, North Carolina, Abbotts Creek Elementary School is a modern 144,000-square-foot elementary school designed to provide flexible, engaging learning environments for students and educators. The new campus supports Wake County Public School System’s commitment to educational excellence through thoughtfully designed classrooms, collaborative learning spaces, and student-centered amenities.
Designed by Clark Nexsen, the school incorporates technology-rich instructional spaces, dedicated areas for STEM education, media resources, multipurpose gathering areas, and indoor and outdoor learning environments that encourage creativity, collaboration, and academic achievement. Every aspect of the facility was planned to create a safe, welcoming campus that supports both students and staff.
Serving as Construction Manager at Risk (CMAR), Barnhill collaborated closely with Wake County Public School System, the design team, and project stakeholders throughout preconstruction and construction. Through proactive planning, cost management, and quality-focused execution, Barnhill delivered a modern educational facility that will serve the community and support future generations of learners.

SCOPE OF WORK: Construction Manager at Risk delivery including preconstruction services, site development, new educational facility construction, classrooms, media center, cafeteria, gymnasium, administrative offices, building systems, parking, student drop-off areas, playgrounds, and associated site improvements.
SOLUTION: Barnhill partnered with Wake County Public School System and Clark Nexsen to deliver a high-quality elementary school that supports flexible learning, student engagement, and long-term community growth. Through collaborative CMAR delivery, proactive planning, and careful construction management, the project was completed to provide a safe, durable, and future-ready educational environment.
