Rocky Mount Event Center

The Rocky Mount Event Center is approximately 175,000 square feet of extensive athletic and multipurpose spaces to accommodate over 4,000 patrons. This facility features eight (8) basketball courts, sixteen (16) volleyball courts, four (4) locker rooms, ten (10) configurable meeting rooms with four (4) party rooms. Also included in the facility are concession stations and catering facilities. There is an arcade that includes video games, a soft-play structure, a Clip-N-Climb wall, and an aerial ropes course. This project is a transformative facility for the City of Rocky Mount. This project is a design-build partnership with Holt Brothers Construction, Oakley Collier Architects and Sink Combs Dethlefs/Perkins+Will.

DETAILS: Barnhill delivered the approximately 175,000 SF Rocky Mount Event Center for the City of Rocky Mount as a transformative sports, entertainment and multipurpose destination capable of accommodating more than 4,000 patrons.

The facility includes eight basketball courts, 16 volleyball courts, four locker rooms, 10 configurable meeting rooms, concession and catering facilities, an arcade, soft-play structure, Clip ‘N Climb wall and aerial ropes course. The flexible facility was designed to support athletic tournaments, community events, meetings and entertainment under one roof.

SCOPE OF WORK: The project included new construction of a 175,000 SF event center with extensive athletic, recreational, meeting and hospitality spaces.

Major components include eight basketball courts that convert to 16 volleyball courts, locker rooms, configurable meeting and event spaces, concession and catering facilities, an arcade and multiple indoor recreation attractions. The facility’s flexible configuration allows it to accommodate sporting events, tournaments, meetings, community gatherings and other large-scale events.

SOLUTION: The City of Rocky Mount envisioned a destination facility capable of supporting both community programming and regional sports tourism while accommodating a wide variety of uses.

Barnhill delivered the project through a design-build partnership with Holt Brothers Construction and the design team, allowing construction and design coordination to occur collaboratively throughout the project. The resulting facility combines competition-level athletic spaces, entertainment attractions, meeting facilities and guest amenities within one flexible venue.

The Rocky Mount Event Center provides the City with a major community asset while creating a destination capable of attracting tournaments, events and visitors to downtown Rocky Mount.
