Apex Friendship Elementary School
Located in Apex, North Carolina, Apex Friendship Elementary School is a 130,000-square-foot elementary school constructed for the Wake County Public School System to support one of the fastest-growing communities in the state. Designed by Boomerang Design, the new campus provides flexible learning environments, collaborative classrooms, and student-centered spaces that encourage creativity, engagement, and academic success.
The school includes modern classrooms, STEM and science learning areas, media center, art and music classrooms, gymnasium, cafeteria, administration suite, secure outdoor learning environments, and age-appropriate playgrounds. The campus was thoughtfully designed to maximize natural light, improve campus circulation, and create safe, welcoming spaces for students, faculty, and families.
As Construction Manager at Risk (CMAR), Barnhill partnered closely with Wake County Public School System and the design team throughout preconstruction and construction. Through proactive planning, detailed cost management, schedule coordination, and quality-focused construction, Barnhill successfully delivered a durable educational facility designed to serve generations of Wake County students.

SCOPE OF WORK: Construction Manager at Risk delivery including preconstruction services, site development, new elementary school construction, classrooms, media center, cafeteria, gymnasium, administrative offices, specialty learning spaces, playgrounds, parking, student drop-off, utilities, landscaping, and supporting infrastructure.
SOLUTION: Barnhill partnered with Wake County Public School System and Boomerang Design to deliver a modern elementary school that supports collaborative instruction, student wellness, and long-term community growth.
