Located within Research Triangle Park in Durham, North Carolina, the ARE Parking Deck was constructed for Alexandria Real Estate Equities, one of the nation’s leading developers of life science and technology campuses. The six-level parking structure was designed to provide safe, efficient, and convenient parking while supporting the continued growth of this premier research and innovation district.
The 251,000-square-foot precast concrete parking deck features durable structural systems, architectural screening panels, pedestrian circulation, energy-efficient LED lighting, integrated stormwater management, and landscaped public spaces that complement the surrounding campus. Designed to serve employees, researchers, and visitors, the facility enhances accessibility while supporting the long-term expansion of Alexandria’s RTP campus.
Serving as Negotiated General Contractor, Barnhill partnered with Alexandria Real Estate Equities and Integrated Design to deliver a high-quality parking structure through careful coordination, schedule management, and exceptional construction execution. The completed project provides reliable parking infrastructure while enhancing the overall functionality and appearance of one of North Carolina’s leading life science developments.

SCOPE OF WORK: Negotiated General Contractor delivery including site preparation, foundations, precast concrete parking structure, architectural façade screening, pedestrian walkways, lighting systems, landscaping, utilities, stormwater management, paving, signage, and supporting site infrastructure.
